SuperPro VAG Trophy Rounds 1 & 2 Donington Park, 28th & 29th April 2012
15 June 2012
2011 SuperPro VAG Trophy Champion Dan Rose could not have got his season off to a better start this weekend, when he scored a double victory by winning Saturday’s round one - and then followed it up by doing it again in Sunday’s round two. On both occasions, driving his Seat Leon Cupra R, Rose started from pole position and each time set the fastest lap.
Second across the line in race one was Ken Lark in his VW Corrado VR6, with Joe McMillan in his Seat Leon doing likewise in the second. Paul Taylor claimed third in both races, driving his Mk4 VW Golf R32, whilst David Jenkins became the first ever winner of the Mk4 Golf TDIGTI Challenge - the one-make series that runs within the SuperPro VAG Trophy.
A more than respectable field of 32 cars turned out for the first two rounds of the season at Donington Park, with the qualifying sessions for both races seeing Rose take P1, with Tony Absolom in his Mk2 Golf VR6 on P2, 2010 SuperPro VAG Trophy winner Mark Jenkins in his Mk5 Golf GTI on P3 and Lark on P4.
Race 1 (Round 1)
With a brisk breeze blowing, the track dried out by the time cars lined up on the grid for the inaugural race of the season. A slow start by Rose saw him enter turn one at Redgate in fourth place, with Absolom out in front, Lark second and Paul Taylor in his Mk4 Golf VR6 third.
But it was all change as the cars exited the corner and headed towards the Craner Curves. A combination of cold tyres and over-enthusiasm saw the top three get off line and lose momentum, which allowed Rose to cruise through and into the lead. Not a driver to miss an opportunity, the 2011 Champion got the hammer down for the rest of the lap and crossed the line for the first time 1.3 seconds ahead of everyoneNext Article »
